The ambulatory surgery service provides an alternative to hospitalization.
The ambulatory surgery service consists of three units:

► Endoscopy Service
► Ambulatory Surgery and nephrolithiasis treatment with extracorporeal lithotripters
► Digital Angiography Service

1°) Before Admission to the Clinic:

► In most cases, your doctor will ask you not to eat or drink prior to your admission; this is for your safety. It is extremely important that you do not drink (even a glass of water) for at least six (6) hours before your procedure, and do not smoke or eat for at least eight (8) hours before your procedure.
► You must take a number of medications on the day of your procedure; your anesthesiologist will inform you about them during your consultation.

Patient Eligibility Criteria:
► Age: children older than 24 months, accompanied by at least one adult at the time of admission and two adults at the time of discharge.
► Patients must be accompanied for the return home.
► Someone must be available to monitor patients the night following the procedure.
► Patients must reside less than one hour from a medical facility in case of emergency relating to the ambulatory surgery.
►  Patients must have access to a telephone.
2°) During Ambulatory Care:

► Your anesthesiologist will constantly monitor your status during the surgical procedure (or endoscopy).

► Immediately after the procedure, you will be taken to the recovery room.

The planning of your surgical procedure takes into account the specific constraints of the type of surgery, the amount of postoperative monitoring, and the estimated post-anesthesia recovery time. Postoperative monitoring takes place in private cubicles in the reception department, in the presence of health care providers, nurses, and health care assistants, and under the supervision of the anesthesiologist, who will attend to your follow-up needs. You will receive a light meal. In addition, a selection of vending machines is available in the clinic lobby.

3°) Discharge:
You can leave the clinic the same day, as soon as you are well enough and have received medical approval, and provided you are:

► Accompanied by someone,
► Do not drive for 24 hours after the procedure,
► Not alone the first night,
► Will not reside more than one hour away from a medical facility.

Pick Up the Following Documents Before Leaving:
► Prescription for pain medication
► Discharge slip, with telephone numbers to call in case you have a problem
► Your next appointment with your physician
Possible Hospitalization:
If the conditions for your discharge are unfavorable, you may be hospitalized in one of the clinic's departments.

Staff Organization and Availability:
► The ambulatory care service is open Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturday mornings as needed.
► All physicians of the Clinique de l'Espérance provide ambulatory care.
► Your primary care physician is an anesthesiologist.
► Your medical team consists of nurses, health care assistants, and clinic representatives.
